Shutelake Smallholders

At Shutelake, we extend our passion for production into sharing our knowledge and expertise with those who want to learn more about keeping sheep. As a farm vet, Jen always had a strong affiliation with the practice’s smallholder clients. Known as “The Sheep Vet”, she ran courses and a membership scheme for these customers and became well renowned for her flair for teaching. Saying goodbye to her smallholders was one of her biggest regrets of leaving practice. Jen has since added to her veterinary knowledge by working as a farm animal nutritionist, specifically for cows and sheep. In this role she ran nutrition courses for AHDB Lamb and farmer groups, as well as helping to technically train the company nutrition sales team.

This background, combined with the positive response from attendees to a couple of courses run recently by Jen for the Ryeland Society, has kindled her desire to set up a service for smallholders, offering training and advice. The Shutelake Farm Smallholder Service was born!

Personalised training for individual smallholdings

For some people, group courses can be too generic. Training that is focussed specifically on you and your farm can be much more valuable. This service is completely tailored to your needs and wants in terms of knowledge and practical training. Also, it can be a better option for those who have more than one in a family wanting to learn. We can visit your farm, or alternatively you are welcome to come to our training facilities.

Pricing is based on a half day (£75 +VAT) or full day basis (£150 +VAT).

Within a 10 mile radius of Shutelake Farm, there is no mileage fee. Outside of this, we charge 45p per mile to cover our travel expenses.
