Shutelake FARM SCHOOL
“My vision is to share our farm and animals with children offering a rich "out of the classroom" environment, where learning comes to life. I aim to help them build confidence in their own abilities and knowledge, by exploring, understanding, and connecting with the natural world."
Jen Marsh - the farmer, vet and founder of Shutelake Farm School

FARMING To inspire children in the heart of devon
Nestled in the serene countryside, Shutelake Farm is a family-run haven dedicated to animal care and environmental stewardship. We invite you to explore our tranquil farm, where curiosity thrives and gentle learning experiences await.
Join us in nurturing young minds through nature!
Step into farming life at Shutelake, where no two visits are the same and every season tells its own story...
For a full farm experience, we recommend to visit three times a year, Autumn/Winter, Spring, and Summer. Our seasonal schedule fits in well with the school terms and gives children a real insight into the changing landscape and farming calendar here at Shutelake. We also offer one-off visits for groups who want to enjoy a single day on the farm.
We love working with teachers and parents to ensure every visit links with the current school curriculum. The farm provides a fantastic outdoor classroom where children can see and experience what they have been learning about in school or at home.
For children who learn best outside the classroom, we can arrange more regular visits, including animal-assisted learning sessions. These can be tailored specifically for the group working in partnership with teachers, parents or learning support leads.
What to expect on your visit.
A typical visit includes:
-
Arrival and farm walk
-
Farm talk introducing the day's theme
-
Hands-on farm activity
-
Free time to feed and pet the sheep
